Customer relationship management (CRM) is not only revolutionizing the business world, it has boosted the job market too. Becoming a Salesforce Certified Administrator is your entry ticket into the booming industry of Salesforce. The hours are usually flexible and admins can work from anywhere using the cloud-based technology. You can prepare yourself to become a  certified Salesforce Administrator with online resources from Trailhead, video tutorials, and online study guides. Salesforce Administrators get to be a part of a fast-paced, ever-changing, growing industry that provides them with a new world of opportunities. Interested in making a career change and becoming a part of the CRM industry? Here are some tips to becoming a Salesforce Administrator:

1. Sign up for a Salesforce Dev account

An account with Salesforce Dev. This allows you to create a personal developer org that you can install and uninstall apps through AppExchange, create and delete reports, and essentially have your own “sandbox” to test things out while you are becoming an admin. This can be extremely helpful because it allows you to put the skills you learn in Trailhead or in other video tutorials to the test and your mistakes won’t affect anyone else in your organization.

2. Be sure to ask questions

While you’re starting out with Salesforce and becoming a new Salesforce Admin, you will want to be sure to ask for help. Utilize social media to get fast, reliable and efficient answers from Salesforce online communities. If you use the hashtag #askforce, you’ll likely receive support within minutes. You can help others too by answering their questions that you have the answers to under this hashtag.

3. Earn your badges

One of the best ways to become an awesome admin is by taking advantage of the free Salesforce Trailhead training modules. These modules have different paths you can choose depending on what areas you want to work on or specialize in. As you complete the modules, you earn badges that bring you steps closer to obtaining your Salesforce Admin certification.

4. Join Salesforce user communities

As you’re working on getting your Salesforce Administrator certification, it is important to find peers who can support you and help you along the way. You can join online Salesforce communities that will be useful when new releases come out, updates, or just to troubleshoot. You can join Salesforce Trailblazer Community to get in touch with other Salesforce users and start connecting.

5. Attend a Salesforce event

Salesforce holds an annual event called Dreamforce in San Francisco with thousands of professionals that are interested in the industry. The event is 4 days long and packed with speakers, new release previews and networking opportunities. If you’re not quite ready for an event of this magnitude, Salesforce hosts some smaller events in different cities across the  United States called Salesforce World Tour. These events provide similar experiences as Dreamforce, but are easier to attend if you’re not located on the west coast.

6. Get certified
